An early expressway start puts you in Agra by late morning. Work through Agra Fort after lunch - the audience halls, the river views toward the Taj - and finish across the Yamuna at Mehtab Bagh for the sunset angle photographers guard jealously.
Taj Mahal at opening, while the light is soft and the marble does its slow colour change, then breakfast and a 1.5-hour hop back up the expressway to Mathura. Afternoon darshan at Shri Krishna Janmabhoomi - lockers take the phones and bags - and evening on the ghats as the temples reopen.
