Romantic Abu Dhabi & Dubai Vacay

Begin in the quieter emirate. Arrive Abu Dhabi, check in, and take the Corniche as the sun drops - a long seafront built for slow walking, with the skyline across the water. The capital rewards an unhurried first evening more than Dubai does; save the noise for later in the week.

The day the trip is really for: Louvre Abu Dhabi under the rain-of-light dome in the morning, the Emirates Palace area at midday, and Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque held for golden hour, when the white marble turns warm and the photographs make themselves. Carry a scarf and cover shoulders and knees - it is checked at the gate.

Roll up the E11 into Dubai - roughly 140 km, under two hours - and swap calm for energy. Check in near JBR or the Marina, then give the evening to the beachfront: sand, lit towers and a dinner you did not have to plan.

Dubai for two, old-school: the abra across the Creek at close quarters, souk lanes with no shopping list, a long lunch. Then the Burj Khalifa around sunset - book that slot ahead, it is the first to go - with the fountains below as the closing act.
