Arrive the smart way - the overnight Mewar Express reaches Udaipur City at 7.20 am, or the flight lands you 22 km out at Dabok - and get straight to the point: the City Palace, Rajasthan's largest palace complex, needs three honest hours. Fit Jagdish Temple before its afternoon break, then take the sunset boat on Pichola.
The lakes beyond the postcard: Saheliyon ki Bari's courtyard gardens, Fateh Sagar's breezy waterfront and the Moti Magri memorial above it, then up to Sajjangarh - the Monsoon Palace - for sunset over the entire lake system. Back in town, Bagore ki Haveli's evening Dharohar folk show is worth planning around.
