What moves the price: hotel position (true lake-view rooms carry a hefty premium; "Mall Road nearby" often means a steep walk), season and weekends, private cab versus train-plus-local-cab, and how many excursion days the vehicle actually works. - Driving up on a Saturday morning of a long weekend. You will spend the day in queues at the toll and the lake. Go Friday night or midweek.
- Trying to see all seven lakes in half a day. Sattal alone deserves half a day; pick two lakes and enjoy them.
