Why a one-monument luxury tour exists
Most Taj Mahal visits are done badly: a midday arrival in a coach queue, ninety rushed minutes in the heat, a commission-shop "marble demonstration" on the way out. For the world's most famous building — the one your overseas guests measure their whole India visit by — that is a poor trade. This page is the opposite product: the Taj at first light with the gates just opened, a guide who can read the Persian calligraphy over the pishtaq, a car that is waiting when you are done, and nothing else booked against the morning.

- The luxury day trip from Delhi — for business visitors and hosts with one free day. Out at dawn (or the evening before by rail), sunrise or early entry, Agra Fort after breakfast, back in Delhi by mid-afternoon.
- The Amarvilas overnight — for couples and anyone for whom the Taj is the item on the list. One night in a hotel where the monument is visible from your room, sunrise entry the next morning, an unhurried departure. This is the version we most enjoy quoting.
- The Mughal Agra extension — two nights, adding Fatehpur Sikri, Itmad-ud-Daulah ("the Baby Taj" — the tomb that pioneered the Taj's inlay style), Mehtab Bagh across the river at sunset, and Agra's underrated Mughal food.
The facts your plan must respect
- The Taj Mahal is closed to tourists every Friday. The complex mosque functions for prayers that day. This is the first date-check on every enquiry we take.
- Hours run sunrise to sunset, with entry from roughly 30 minutes before sunrise; the monument is ticketed by nationality tier, with an additional mausoleum ticket to enter the main cenotaph chamber, and entry tickets now carry a 3-hour validity.
- Night viewing exists, narrowly: five nights a month around the full moon, in small time-slotted batches booked in advance, and not on Fridays (or during Ramzan-period restrictions when applicable). It is a distant, moonlit view — atmospheric, not a photo session. We arrange it when dates align, and say plainly when they do not.
- Sunrise is not a gimmick. The first hour has the softest light on the marble, the coolest air and a fraction of the day's crowd. Every format we sell is built around it.
- Bags: large bags, tripods, food and much else are barred; the luxury formats solve this by keeping your driver and belongings at the gate.

Two sample formats in detail
Format A — Luxury day trip from Delhi (car or rail)
Option 1, by road: 5:00 AM departure from your Delhi NCR address in a chauffeured car (Innova Crysta baseline; premium sedans on request), Yamuna Expressway, at the East Gate area around 8:00 AM for early entry with your private guide — two unhurried hours inside. Breakfast at a five-star in Agra. Agra Fort with the guide — the Taj seen from Shah Jahan's marble prison balcony completes the story. Depart by 1:30 PM, Delhi by 5:00 PM. Option 2, by rail: the Gatimaan Express or Vande Bharat class from Delhi (about 100–110 minutes to Agra Cantt) in executive class, met on the platform by car and guide; same monument sequence; return by evening train. Rail beats road on reliability in fog season.
Format B — The Amarvilas overnight (1 night / 2 days)
Day 1 — Late-morning departure from Delhi, lunch en route or in Agra, afternoon at Agra Fort and sunset at Mehtab Bagh, the garden directly across the Yamuna from the Taj — the classic dusk view. Check in at Amarvilas tier; the monument sits in view from the room as the light goes. Day 2 — Sunrise entry with your guide, the mausoleum ticket included, back for breakfast on the terrace with the Taj in front of you. Optional Itmad-ud-Daulah on departure. Delhi by mid-afternoon, or onward to Jaipur to grow this into the Luxury Golden Triangle.

The day-trip format prices well below this — indicatively ₹12,000–₹30,000 per person depending on car class, rail choice and group size, since no luxury hotel night is involved; a couple in a private car with a top guide sits mid-band.
What moves the price
- The hotel night. Amarvilas-class is the defining spend of Format B; ITC Mughal tier roughly halves the hotel line.
- Group size. Car, guide and driver costs divide across the party — a family of four prices far better per head than a couple.
- Rail versus road, and executive-class seats.
- Season — hotel rates peak October–March; the monument itself costs the same all year.

How does Taj Mahal night viewing work?
It runs on five nights around each full moon — the full-moon night plus two either side — in small, time-slotted, advance-booked groups, viewing from a distance rather than walking the gardens, and never on Fridays. It is a moonlit silhouette experience: beautiful, brief, and not a substitute for a daytime visit. If your dates touch a full moon, tell us when you enquire and we will check feasibility.
Can we do the Taj Mahal as a day trip from Delhi?

What should overseas guests know about tickets?
Tickets are tiered by nationality — foreign visitors pay a substantially higher rate than Indian citizens, with an additional small mausoleum ticket for the main chamber, and entry validity is time-limited. In our formats all of this is pre-arranged; guests simply walk in with the guide. Carry passports; they are checked against foreign-ticket categories.
Is one night in Agra worth it versus a day trip?
If the Taj is a life-list item for you or your guests, yes. The overnight buys three experiences the day trip cannot: sunset from Mehtab Bagh, the monument in view from your hotel at dawn, and sunrise entry without a 5 AM Delhi start. Agra Fort, above all — Shah Jahan's citadel and prison, with the river view that frames the Taj story. Itmad-ud-Daulah, the exquisite small tomb that preceded and influenced the Taj's inlay work. Can we combine the Taj with Jaipur or more of India?

Is the Taj Mahal wheelchair accessible?
Substantially, yes: ramp access exists through the main routes and wheelchairs are available at the entry, though the main mausoleum plinth involves steps and the chamber itself is reached by a stair.
