Japan Tour Packages From Delhi — The eVisa Route, Real Costs, And The Tokyo–Kyoto–Osaka Spine Done Right

Why Japan is the smartest big trip of 2026 — and who it won't suit

For twenty years Japan sat in the "someday" pile for Indian travellers: assumed expensive, assumed visa-hard, assumed impossible without the language. All three assumptions are now wrong. A weak yen era has made Japan cost roughly what Switzerland costs — sometimes less on the ground. The visa, historically a document-heavy embassy affair, now has an online eVisa route for Indian tourists. And the language barrier dissolved the day translation apps learned to read menus through a camera.

What Japan actually delivers is unlike anywhere else we send clients: bullet trains that make transport a highlight rather than a cost; cities that are simultaneously the world's most futuristic and most orderly; temples and gardens that reward slow mornings; food theatre everywhere; and a standard of public courtesy that first-time visitors talk about for years.

Japan suits couples (there is no better honeymoon for a couple who bond over food, trains or pop culture), solo travellers (the safest large country we sell), seniors (order, cleanliness, punctuality), and families with teens. It does not suit travellers who need Indian food at every meal without planning (see the food section — it needs honesty), travellers who want beach-resort idleness, or very tight budgets: Japan's floor price is real because hotels are small and rail is premium.

Best time to visit Japan from India

AprilCherry blossom peaks early-month (Kyoto/Osaka), then fresh greenThe most beautiful — and most booked — fortnight in world travelExtreme early-month

JuneRainy season (tsuyu) — humid, wet spellsWorkable, atmospheric, cheaper; hydrangeasMedium
JulyHot, humid; festival season (Gion Matsuri, Kyoto)Sweaty but vividMedium–High
AugustPeak heat and humidity; Obon holiday crowds mid-monthThe hardest month; fine for HokkaidoMedium

NovemberAutumn colour peaks (Kyoto maples mid–late Nov)Arguably Japan's most photogenic monthVery high
DecemberCold, clear; illuminations; year-endLovely city month; New Year period shuts muchMedium, high at year-end

The honest recommendation: cherry blossom is genuinely worth planning a year ahead — but if you cannot book that far out, late October–November delivers equal beauty at saner prices, and nobody who has seen Kyoto's maples feels short-changed. 2026 bloom forecasts put Tokyo's full bloom around 29 March, Kyoto/Osaka early April (researched 2026-08-27) — but bloom dates float with the weather; never promise a client "you will see sakura on 2 April".

How many days does Japan need?

Six nights is the honest minimum for the Tokyo–Kyoto–Osaka spine. Eight to ten lets you breathe and add Hakone/Mt Fuji or Hiroshima. Japan punishes rush more than Europe: its pleasures are precision-timed trains and unhurried temples, and a 5-city sprint wastes both.

Two Japan itineraries that actually run

Itinerary A — 6 Nights: the golden-route first trip

Day 1: Delhi–Tokyo (Haneda preferred over Narita — it is 30 minutes from the city, not 90). Nonstops have run about 7.5–8.5 hours eastbound. Evening: Shibuya Crossing and dinner in a basement izakaya alley. Overnight Tokyo. Day 2: Tokyo east side — Asakusa's Sensō-ji at 8 am before crowds, Ueno park and market streets, teamLab digital art (book weeks ahead), Tokyo Skytree or Shibuya Sky at dusk. Overnight Tokyo. Day 3: Tokyo west side — Meiji Shrine forest, Harajuku, Shinjuku; evening Omoide Yokocho lantern lanes. Overnight Tokyo. Day 4: Shinkansen Tokyo → Kyoto — about 2h15m on the Nozomi service, 500+ km, and the ride itself is a Japan highlight (sit on the right side, Fuji appears about 40 minutes in on a clear day). Afternoon: Fushimi Inari's torii gates (go at 4 pm as tour buses leave). Overnight Kyoto. Day 5: Kyoto — Arashiyama bamboo grove at 8 am, Kinkaku-ji golden pavilion, Gion by evening (geisha district; photograph streets, never people, without asking). Overnight Kyoto. Day 6: Kyoto → Osaka (15 minutes by Shinkansen or 30 by local) — Osaka Castle exterior, then the point of Osaka: Dōtonbori's neon food streets by night. Overnight Osaka. Day 7: Fly out of Kansai (KIX) — or Shinkansen back for the Tokyo departure if fares dictate. Open-jaw (into Tokyo, out of Osaka) saves half a day; price both.

Itinerary B — 9 Nights: spine + Fuji + Hiroshima

Days 1–3 Tokyo as above → Day 4: Hakone loop (Romancecar from Shinjuku; ropeway, lake cruise, onsen afternoon; Fuji visibility is a lottery — mornings win) overnight Hakone ryokan, one night of tatami-and-kaiseki is the Japan memory clients rank first → Days 5–7 Kyoto with a Nara half-day (deer park and the Great Buddha, 45 minutes from Kyoto) → Day 8: Hiroshima + Miyajima day return by Shinkansen from Kyoto/Osaka (Peace Memorial mornings, floating torii afternoon) → Day 9 Osaka food night → fly KIX.

What a Japan trip from Delhi actually costs

*₹1,50,000–₹2,60,000 per person (indicative · 6N/7D · ex-Delhi · twin sharing · excludes GST & TCS)**

*\Indicative market range as of Aug 2026. Contact us on +91 97299 91755 for a current quote.

Researched 2026-08-27: Indian-market Japan packages cluster ₹1.05–1.95 lakh for 6–7 nights (flights sometimes excluded — check), with branded group tours from ₹1.93 lakh (SOTC listing) and cherry-blossom departures pricing at the top. What moves the number: (1) season — sakura fortnight and November foliage carry 25–40% premiums on hotels; (2) rail plan — see below; (3) hotel size-vs-location trade (Japanese city rooms are small; paying for "spacious" in Tokyo is the biggest silent upgrade cost); (4) flights nonstop vs one-stop East Asian routings.

The rail-pass honesty every competitor page fudges: the nationwide Japan Rail Pass was repriced sharply upward in October 2023 (the 7-day ordinary pass moved to around ¥50,000), and for a simple Tokyo→Kyoto→Osaka one-way spine it no longer pays for itself — point-to-point Shinkansen tickets cost less than the pass for this shape. The pass earns its keep only with a return leg or a Hiroshima extension. We run the arithmetic per itinerary rather than auto-selling the pass.

Typically included

Japan visa for Indians — the wall has come down

Researched 2026-08-27 (consistent across btwvisas.com, visarun.ai, the-shooting-star.com — trade sources). The position:

  • A visa is required before boarding. There is no visa on arrival for Indian passports.
  • The eVisa route is live for Indians: single-entry, tourism-only, applied online — no consulate queue for eligible ordinary-passport tourists. Reported government fee from 1 April 2026: about ₹500; the paper route via VFS lands around ₹2,200–₹2,900 all-in with service and biometric charges.
  • Permitted stay is set by the consulate — typically 15 or 30 days for tourists.
  • The file remains Japan-typical: itinerary day-by-day, bank statements, ITRs, employment proof. Japan refuses vague files, not modest ones.

Operator's note: [EDITOR — insert YashTrip's actual observed Japan visa/eVisa turnaround for Delhi NCR files and the one itinerary-document formatting habit that gets Japan files approved smoothly. Ours is the only Delhi operator page that will state a real number here.]

Flights from Delhi to Japan

Delhi–Tokyo nonstops have operated at roughly 7.5–8.5 hours eastbound (shorter than Delhi–London). One-stop routings via Bangkok, Singapore, Hong Kong or Seoul often price ₹10,000–₹25,000 lower and suit an Osaka open-jaw. Remember the time zone: Japan is +3.5 hours from IST — jet lag is mild, but Day 1 evening plans should stay soft.

Currency and daily spend

Yen. The pleasant surprise of the weak-yen era: Japan's street level is affordable. A superb bowl of ramen ¥900–1,300; convenience-store (konbini) breakfast ¥500; temple entries ¥400–600; metro rides ¥180–280. Above a breakfast-included package, ¥6,000–¥10,000 per person per day covers eating genuinely well plus local transport — roughly ₹3,500–₹6,000, cheaper than Switzerland by half. Japan still runs partly on cash — carry ¥10,000–20,000; 7-Eleven ATMs take Indian cards.

Honeymoon, family and senior variants

Honeymoon: Itinerary B with the Hakone ryokan night as the centrepiece — a private open-air onsen bath room (rotenburo) is the upgrade that outranks any hotel suite. November colour season over sakura if crowds stress you. Family: Itinerary A plus a Universal Studios Japan day in Osaka (Nintendo World needs timed entry — book the moment tickets open) or Tokyo Disneyland. Konbini food is the family budget saviour — children universally love it. Luggage-forward between cities and carry one small bag; Shinkansen large-luggage rules make this the professional move. Seniors: Japan is the world's most senior-friendly major destination — lifts everywhere, spotless facilities, zero tipping stress. Slow the itinerary to two bases (Tokyo 3N, Kyoto 3N), use green-car (first-class) Shinkansen seats for the extra width, and book hotels adjacent to stations.

Vegetarian and Jain food in Japan — the section that needs the most honesty

Japan is the hardest destination in this cluster for strict vegetarians — harder than Europe — and pretending otherwise sets clients up for hungry evenings. The core problem is invisible: dashi, the fish-based stock, underlies most soups, sauces and even seemingly vegetarian dishes. A "vegetable tempura" is usually fried in shared oil and dipped in fish-stock sauce.

The workable strategy: (1) shojin ryori — Kyoto's Buddhist temple cuisine — is fully vegetarian by definition and a destination experience in itself (book a temple lunch); (2) dedicated vegan/vegetarian ramen chains exist in Tokyo and Kyoto (T's Tantan inside Tokyo Station is the famous one) and are excellent; (3) Indian restaurants exist in every major city — Tokyo and Osaka have plenty; (4) konbini labelling plus a translation app makes onigiri/salad/fruit runs safe once you learn the fish-flake trap; (5) for Jain travellers, Japan is a carry-food-and-plan destination: temple cuisine uses no onion/garlic in its strictest form (confirm per venue), Indian restaurants with notice, apartment stays, and a serious stock of theplas/ready-to-eat. We say this plainly: a Jain family that plans eats well in Japan; one that improvises does not.

What NOT to do in Japan

  • Do not talk loudly on trains or take calls in carriages — it is the one etiquette line whose crossing genuinely offends.
  • Do not tip. Anywhere. It confuses and mildly insults; excellent service is the default, not a transaction.
  • Do not board the Shinkansen with four large suitcases. Oversize luggage needs reserved space; use takkyubin forwarding and carry a day bag.
  • Do not photograph geisha/maiko without consent in Gion — parts of the district have restricted photography after incidents; streets yes, people no.
  • Do not build an itinerary that ignores the 11 pm last train. Taxis after midnight are Japan's one genuinely expensive habit.

Five mistakes Delhi travellers make in Japan

  1. Auto-buying the JR Pass because a blog from 2019 said so — post-repricing, the simple one-way spine is cheaper point-to-point.
  2. Booking Narita-side hotels to save money — the airport transfer eats the saving; Haneda arrival + city hotel wins.
  3. Promising themselves cherry blossom on fixed dates — bloom windows move; build the trip to be excellent even if petals are early or late.
  4. Skipping the ryokan night to standardise on hotels — the tatami-onsen-kaiseki night is the single most remembered element we sell.
  5. Underestimating walking — 15,000 steps/day is normal; one pair of broken-in walking shoes matters more than any packing list item.

Frequently asked questions

Q1. What does a Japan trip cost from Delhi?

Indicatively ₹1,50,000–₹2,60,000 per person for 6 nights with flights, twin sharing, excluding GST, TCS and visa. Cherry-blossom and November-foliage departures sit at the top of that band; June and September at the bottom. On-ground daily costs are now lower than Western Europe. Call +91 97299 91755 for current dates.

Q2. Do Indians need a visa for Japan? Is there an eVisa?

Yes, a visa before travel — no visa on arrival. The eVisa route is live for Indian ordinary-passport tourists: single-entry, tourism-only, applied online, with a reported consular fee of about ₹500 from April 2026 (paper route via VFS costs ₹2,200–₹2,900 all-in). We prepare the day-by-day itinerary Japan expects.

Q3. When is cherry blossom season in Japan?

Late March to early April for the Tokyo–Kyoto–Osaka corridor — 2026 saw Tokyo full bloom around 29 March. Dates float year to year with weather, so book flexible-minded: the trip must stand even if bloom shifts a week. November's autumn maples are the equal-beauty alternative with easier booking.

Q4. How long is the flight from Delhi to Tokyo?

About 7.5–8.5 hours nonstop eastbound — shorter than Delhi–London. One-stop routings via Bangkok, Singapore or Seoul price lower and enable flying into Tokyo and out of Osaka, which saves a half-day backtrack on the classic route. Japan is +3.5 hours ahead of IST, so jet lag is mild.

Q5. Is the Japan Rail Pass worth it?

Often not anymore. After the October 2023 repricing (7-day ordinary pass around ¥50,000), the simple Tokyo→Kyoto→Osaka one-way spine costs less with point-to-point Shinkansen tickets. The pass pays only with a return leg or extensions like Hiroshima. We run the exact arithmetic for your route before you buy anything.

Q6. Is Japan expensive for Indian travellers?

Less than its reputation. Hotels are compact and rail is premium, but daily life — ramen at ¥1,000, metro at ¥200, temple entries under ¥600 — costs half of Switzerland. Budget ¥6,000–¥10,000 (₹3,500–₹6,000) per person per day beyond a breakfast-included package and you will eat extremely well.

Q7. Can vegetarians manage in Japan?

With planning, yes; by improvising, poorly — fish stock (dashi) hides in most "vegetable" dishes. The reliable circuit: Kyoto's Buddhist shojin ryori temple meals, dedicated vegan ramen houses (T's Tantan in Tokyo Station), Indian restaurants in every big city, and labelled konbini food. Jain travellers should carry dry food and pre-book Indian/Jain meals — we arrange this.

Q8. Is Japan good for a honeymoon?

Exceptional for the right couple — food, trains, neon, temples, and a ryokan night with a private onsen bath that outclasses any resort suite. It is a walking, doing honeymoon rather than a lounging one. Pair 3N Tokyo, 1N Hakone ryokan, 3N Kyoto for the ideal shape.

Q9. Is Japan safe? What about language?

Japan is arguably the safest country we sell — lost wallets return, solo women travel comfortably at night. Language is no longer a barrier: station signage is English-dual, and camera-translation apps read menus instantly. Carry your hotel's name in Japanese for taxis, and you are set.

Q10. Japan or Europe for my next big trip?

Same budget band, different products. Choose Japan for food, order, trains and a culture genuinely unlike India's; choose Europe for multi-country variety and classical sights. Japan's visa is now simpler than Schengen for Indians. Repeat Europe travellers overwhelmingly rate Japan the fresher trip — ask us on +91 97299 91755.
